Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome affects 1 in 10 women and can show itself as early as puberty. Unfortunately the cause is unknown and there is at present no known cure, apart from radical surgery. The condition often presents itself with oily skin, acne, weight increase, particularly around the waist, excess hair growth to the face, neck, chest, stomach and back, but often thinning hair to the scalp, and irregular or no periods.
Besides having small cysts containing fluid on their ovaries, women with Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome make more androgens (male hormones) in their ovaries. Researchers think that insulin may be linked to the increase of androgen production in the ovaries. Insulin is the hormone that controls the change of sugars, starches and other foods into energy. Many women with Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome have too much insulin and excessive insulin appears to increase the androgen production.
Changing your diet to cut down on the blood glucose (sugar) level can be achieved by limiting processed foods and foods containing added sugars. Carefully check and compare labels on foods to see sugar content. Even so called “healthy cereals” will shock you when you see how much sugar per 100 grams they often contain! Eat plenty of fresh fruit, leafy vegetables, lean meat, fish and whole grains, beans and pulses. Even a 10% weight loss can help towards improving the hormone levels.
Regular exercising, such as a daily brisk walk, will improve weight loss, too.
Both laser hair removal and electrolysis are excellent methods for keeping the excess hair problem manageable.
For the oily skin and the acne a course of lactic acid peels to control the excess oil production will also help to reduce the number of outbreaks to the skin. Laser treatment for excess oil is also another option as it slows down the production of the excess oil from the sebaceous glands.
Over the years at The Hough Green Clinic we have sympathetically helped many women with the above mentioned problems. We cannot cure the problem but we can certainly go a long way towards managing and improving the condition. Our Genie Complete Face and Body machine is excellent for breaking down body fat and toning. Twenty minutes of the toning treatment to the abdomen is equivalent to 360 sit ups! You can start with the slimming treatment to break down the excess fat and then follow with the toning to reshape and define the body.
The Ellipse Intense Pulsed Light/laser machine is excellent for permanent hair reduction and the treatment of acne and excess oil.
After 27 years of treating women with excess hair by electrolysis I am confident that you will experience an excellent result.
