Acne & Rosacea Care

Acne is a common skin condition that can cause spots, oily skin and, at times, spots and pustules that can feel hot or painful.

Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that can cause flushing, ongoing redness, sensitivity and small pustules.

The first step we take is to work out what is causing the inflammation and take your skin back to basics. Are there certain factors that could be aggravating your skin, such as diet, environment, skincare or stress?

We will take you through a thorough consultation, educate you on what is happening within your skin and work out a suitable plan to help you feel in control of your skin again.

Acne and Problematic Skin Care Support Chester

What These Treatments Can Help With

Inflamed breakouts
Blackheads and blocked pores
Oily, congested skin
Redness and flushing
Sensitive, easily irritated skin
Acne-like rosacea bumps
Post-breakout marks (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
Uneven texture and acne scarring
Feeling in control of your skin again
These are some of the most common concerns we see regularly in our clinic, although not every client will have all of them at once. Acne and rosacea need very different treatment strategies, and acne scarring is usually approached differently again. All of this information will be discussed in depth at your consultation.

How Our Approach Works

For active acne, the aim is usually to reduce blockage, calm inflammation and support the skin so it can function better over time. We always start with in-clinic facials to assess your skin, alongside individualised homecare for acne-prone skin and scarring.

For rosacea-prone skin, we take a similar approach. Rosacea can cause flushing, persistent redness, burning or stinging, and the skin often becomes easily irritated. Guidance from dermatology and NHS sources highlights the importance of gentle skincare, moisturising, sun protection and avoiding triggers wherever possible.

If acne scarring is present, this is treated in stages rather than rushing. Microneedling and RF microneedling work by creating a controlled wound-healing response that supports new collagen and elastin. Our Advanced Nurse practitioner can offer advanced aesthetic treatments, such as polynucleotides to further improve scarring.

In practice, we want active inflammation settled before moving into scar-focused work with devices.

Treatment Options We May Recommend

Byonik for Acne and Scaring in Our Clinic

Byonik for inflamed, sensitised or rosacea-prone skin

When skin feels red, tight, irritated or generally sensitised, a gentler, slower approach is often the best place to start alongside personalised Dermaviduals homecare. Byonik is pulse-guided cold laser treatment designed to repair skin, reduce inflammation and support the skin using hyaluronic acid and antioxidants, with no downtime.

In our clinic, this is the sort of treatment we may consider when the priority is calming and supporting the skin rather than pushing it harder with peels and lasers.

Microneedling Skin Consultation and Review

Microneedling and RF microneedling for acne scarring

Once active acne is settled, microneedling or RF microneedling may be considered to improve the look of acne scarring. RF microneedling uses ultra-fine needles and controlled heat to stimulate a wound-healing response and support new collagen and elastin, making acne scars less noticeable.

If suitable, up to 6 monthly RF microneedling may be recommended. Micro needling a minimum of 6 treatments around 4 weeks apart is recommended.

What To Expect

l Before

Prior to Treatment

We begin with a comprehensive consultation. That means looking at the skin closely, talking through what has been happening, finding out what you have already tried, and working out whether the main problem is active acne, rosacea, scarring, or a combination. Acne and rosacea are both conditions that benefit from a structured plan rather than constant product switching.

We will ask you about what you have previously used on your skin - prescription creams, antibiotics, retinoids or anything that has irritated your skin recently – as well as asking you about your lifestyle

During

Treatment Time

This really depends on how your skin looks; we may do very little! Byonik cold laser is usually a great place to start, as it is suitable for most skins.

Microneedling is a more active treatment and usually causes temporary redness afterwards. We will always talk you through what to expect before we begin.

Post

After Care

Aftercare depends on the treatment selected, but the principle is always the same: keep things gentle.

Daily SPF can be beneficial particularly with rosacea-prone skin, where sun exposure is a very common trigger.

GOOD TO KNOW: Rosacea cannot be cured, but it can usually be managed; active acne and scarring will need different stages of treatment rather than one quick fix.

Acne guidance is typically reviewed at around 12 weeks, while rosacea management relies on consistent skincare and trigger control alongside treatment.

Acne & Rosacea FAQs

What is the difference between acne and rosacea?
Acne usually involves blocked pores, oil, blackheads, whiteheads and inflamed spots. Rosacea is a long-term facial skin condition more associated with flushing, persistent redness, sensitivity, burning or stinging, and sometimes acne-like bumps. The two can be confused, and rosacea can exist alongside acne, which is one reason proper assessment matters.
Which treatment will I need for my skin?
That depends on what is truly driving the problem. Dermaviduals allows us to see your ‘true skin’ which will guide us to find a solution. If the main issue is congestion and active breakouts, regular clinic facials and homecare will be part of the plan. If the skin is red, reactive or sensitised, a gentler route may be more appropriate. If scarring is the main concern and active inflammation is under better control, microneedling or RF microneedling may be an option. We tailor this properly in-clinic rather than assuming one treatment suits everyone.
Can acne and rosacea be treated at the same time?
In clinic, we work in steps: settle inflammation, support the skin barrier, then build from there if needed.
How long does it take to see improvement?
This varies and is very individual. Some clients notice their skin feels calmer and less reactive very quickly, but meaningful improvement with acne, rosacea or scarring usually takes consistency. Your skin needs to heal, which takes time.
Are acne and rosacea treatments painful?
Most treatments are very manageable. Byonik is pain free. Microneedling can feel like a pinch and can leave the skin looking pink or red afterwards. We always explain what to expect so you feel prepared and comfortable.
Will I need homecare products as well?

Yes. Homecare products matter because both acne and rosacea are influenced by what you do at home, not just by what happens in-clinic. Whilst our treatments and our advice are important, what you use on your skin at home on a daily basis accounts for more than 70% of the results you can expect to see in from treatments in the clinic.

Can acne scars be improved?
Yes, although the goal is improvement rather than pretending scars can simply be erased. Microneedling, RF microneedling, microneedling and polynucleotides make acne scars less noticeable.
Can rosacea be cured?
Rosacea cannot be cured, but it can usually be managed. Treatment plans work best when they are combined with supportive skincare, trigger awareness, diet and lifestyle changes and realistic expectations.
What should I avoid if my skin is flaring?
Less is always more for either condition. Avoid picking or squeezing spots, over-exfoliating, and using strong products when the skin is already irritated. If you have rosacea, sun exposure can be one of the common triggers, so daily SPF is important. Flaring skin usually needs less aggression, not more. Speaking to us will help you figure out your triggers so you can manage the flares.
Can you treat acne scarring if I still have active acne?
Sometimes, but often we want the active acne to be controlled first. There is little point focusing on scar work if inflammation is still creating new marks or deeper spots. Treating acne earlier can also help reduce the risk of scarring, and picking makes scarring more likely. We cover all of this in our consultations and in our aftercare advice.
