CryoPen for Skin tags of All Types

CryoPen in Chester

If you are looking for skin tag removal in Chester, or want advice on a wart, verruca or other benign lesion, at Hough Green Clinic, we use CryoPen to safely treat benign skin lesions. Cryopen is a method of controlled cryotherapy, which safely and quickly removes unwanted blemishes without cutting, stitches or a lengthy recovery and little downtime.

It is often chosen by clients who want a precise, non-surgical treatment that fits easily around day-to-day life.

CryoPen Treatment

CryoPen uses a very cold jet of nitrous oxide to freeze the unwanted lesion in a controlled way. The treated lesion then breaks down and heals over time, usually with a scab, crust or small blister before it lifts away. Some lesions clear with one treatment, while others, especially thicker or viral lesions such as warts, will need repeat sessions.

These are the kinds of benign lesions most commonly assessed for CryoPen suitability. At our clinic, we only treat lesions that are appropriate for cryotherapy, and some lesion types need extra medical confirmation before we proceed.

How CryoPen Works

Cryotherapy works by applying extreme cold to the unwanted lesion. CryoPen, is very precise, so the lesion is targeted so the surrounding tissue is protected. The area is frozen for a few seconds, the cells in the lesion are damaged, and the skin then goes through a natural healing process over the following days and weeks.

What clients like about CryoPen is that it is quick and very focused and comfortable with little downtime. The area may go red, swell slightly, blister, crust or scab before it heals.

What To Expect

l Before

Prior to Treatment

We start with an assessment to make sure the lesion is suitable for treatment. CryoPen is for benign lesions only, so if there is any uncertainty, if the lesion is changing, or if it looks suspicious, we would advise medical review first. Moles are not treated with Cryotherapy, but can be reduced in size using advanced electrolysis

Our current clinic guidance also states that we cannot treat seborrhoeic keratoses without written confirmation of diagnosis from your doctor.

During

Treatment Time

The treatment itself is usually very quick. Most lesions are treated in seconds rather than minutes, although the appointment may be longer if you have more than one lesion. Most clients describe the sensation as intensely cold, followed by brief stinging or a hot, itchy feeling as the skin starts to thaw.

Post

After Care

After CryoPen, it is normal for the area to look red or swollen, and a blister or scab can form, which is part of the normal healing response. We usually advise keeping the area dry for the first 24 hours, then washing gently and leaving the scab alone. The area should be protected from rubbing, picking or unnecessary irritation while it heals.

CryoPen FAQs

What is CryoPen?

CryoPen is a handheld cryotherapy device used to remove selected benign skin lesions by freezing them. In simple terms, it delivers a very cold jet of nitrous oxide to the lesion so the unwanted tissue breaks down and heals away over time. It is commonly used for things like skin tags, warts and verrucas, as well as some other benign blemishes once they have been properly assessed.

What can CryoPen remove?
CryoPen is commonly used for skin tags, common warts, verrucas and a range of benign skin lesions. In our clinic, we always assess the lesion first rather than promising treatment automatically, because the right answer depends on what the lesion is, where it is, and how confident we are in the diagnosis. For some lesion types, such as seborrhoeic keratoses, we require written confirmation of diagnosis from your doctor before treatment.
Does CryoPen hurt?
Most people find it manageable. The sensation is usually more of an intense cold followed by brief stinging, which settles quickly. Some lesions and some body areas are naturally more sensitive than others, so the experience does vary.
How many CryoPen treatments will I need?
Many benign lesions respond to a single treatment, but not all of them. Thicker lesions, deeper lesions and viral lesions such as warts and verrucas sometimes need more than one session. That is worth knowing from the start, because a verruca, for example, may be more stubborn than a small skin tag and can take a few sessions to clear.
What happens after CryoPen treatment?
The treated area usually goes through a normal healing response. It may look red, feel a bit sore, swell slightly, blister, darken or form a scab before it clears. We usually advise keeping the area dry for the first 24 hours, then washing gently and avoiding picking, as picking increases the risk of scarring.
How long does CryoPen take to heal?
Healing time depends on the lesion. Generally, healing can take from around 2 to 6 weeks, although some smaller areas may settle sooner. Areas on the legs can take a bit longer, and warts or verrucas can also be slower than a small skin tag.
Will CryoPen leave a scar or mark?
CryoPen is generally chosen because it is precise and usually leaves less scarring than more invasive removal methods, but no skin treatment is completely free from risk. Small scars, pale marks or changes in skin colour can happen, and pigmentation change is more likely in darker skin tones. In our clinic, we would rather be realistic about that than pretend every lesion heals invisibly.
Can you treat moles with CryoPen?
No. Suspicious lesions, changing moles, or anything that bleeds, changes shape, changes colour or looks unusual should be checked medically first. Moles can be reduced in size using advanced electrolysis.
Can CryoPen be used on the face?

Suitability depends on the type and location of the lesion. Please book a consultation so we can assess it and explain the appropriate treatment options. Suspicious or changing lesions require medical review before cosmetic treatment.

Can warts and verrucas come back after CryoPen?
They can. Warts and verrucas are caused by a virus, so although cryotherapy can remove the visible lesion, some do recur or need repeat treatment. That is especially true if the lesion is thick and long-standing.
How much does CryoPen cost?

Our current clinic page lists CryoPen prices from £60, with the exact cost depending on the size, type and number of lesions being treated. The best way to get an accurate idea is to let us assess the area first in a consultation.
