HIFU & Microneedling for a Fresh Skin Glow

Radio Frequency Microneedling & HIFU Treatments in Chester

If your skin is starting to feel looser, rougher or uneven, treating only the surface is not always enough. At Hough Green Clinic in Chester, we use Focus Dual technology to combine radio frequency microneedling for texture, pores and scarring with HIFU for deeper lifting and tightening.

It gives us a more complete non-surgical option for clients who want firmer, smoother-looking skin without surgery.

HIFU & Microneedling

Focus Dual is useful because it can work at more than one level of the skin. Radio frequency microneedling is usually the part we think about when texture, pores, scarring or fine lines are the main issue. HIFU may be more suitable when the deeper concern is laxity, lift or firmness.

That layered approach is one of the reasons this treatment can suit clients who have more than one concern at the same time, which is why a skin consultation is key before you start any treatment plan.

How Focus Dual Works

Radio frequency microneedling uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin while delivering radio frequency energy into the tissue below the surface. In simple terms, that combination helps stimulate new collagen and elastin, which is why RF microneedling is often used for acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture, fine lines and mild skin laxity.

HIFU works differently. It uses focused ultrasound energy to reach deeper support layers, where it creates controlled heat that triggers a healing response and collagen production. That is why HIFU is generally associated more with lifting and tightening than with surface texture. It is often more appropriate when the main issue is laxity through the lower face, neck or jawline rather than acne scarring or pores.

The real strength of Focus Dual is that it gives us options. Some clients mainly need the surface-refining benefits of RF microneedling and microneedling, whereas other clients need the deeper lift that HIFU can offer. Clients will benefit from a plan that addresses both skin quality and firmness over time.

What To Expect

l Before

Prior to Treatment

We start with a consultation. We need to understand whether your main concern is scarring, pores, texture, crepey skin, deeper laxity or a mixture of several things. We also need to review your skin history, any recent treatments, medications and whether your skin is calm enough for treatment. If acne scarring is the concern, active acne usually needs to be better controlled first.

Before RF microneedling and microneedling, you may also be advised to avoid things that can increase bruising or irritation, such as alcohol, certain anti-inflammatory pain relief and strong active products, depending on your circumstances. We would always guide you properly on that rather than leaving you to guess.

During

Treatment Time

What treatment feels like depends on what we are doing. RF microneedling and microneedling usually takes 45 minutes. Most people find it manageable rather than severe, but it is still a more active treatment than a facial.

HIFU feels different, usually more like deeper warmth, tingling or short bursts of heat in the tissue.

Post

After Care

Downtime depends on whether you have RF microneedling or microneedling, HIFU or a plan that includes both over time. After RF microneedling and microneedling, mild redness is common and some clients can also have light swelling, which will subside after an hour or so. Many people are back to their normal routine within a day, although some skins can stay pink for longer. HIFU usually has little to no downtime, but temporary tenderness can happen.

Results are gradual rather than instant. Some clients notice their skin looks fresher quite early on, but the real improvement comes with collagen remodelling over the weeks and months that follow. That is why patience matters with this kind of treatment.

GOOD TO KNOW: this is not a replacement for surgery and it will not give a surgical facelift result.

HIFU & Microneedling FAQs

What is the difference between radio frequency microneedling and HIFU?

They work at different levels and for slightly different goals. Radio frequency microneedling is usually more relevant when the issue is acne scarring, enlarged pores, texture, fine lines or mild laxity. HIFU works deeper and is more associated with lifting and tightening where the main concern is skin laxity rather than surface texture. Focus Dual gives us access to both, which is why it is such a versatile treatment device.

Can this treatment help acne scarring?
Yes, acne scarring is one of the main reasons people look at RF microneedling. Microneedling is widely used to make acne scars less noticeable by stimulating collagen and elastin and growth factors. In our clinic, we would usually want active inflammation under better control before focusing heavily on scar work.
Can radio frequency microneedling help enlarged pores and rough texture?
Yes, that is one of its strengths. RF microneedling is often chosen when skin texture feels rougher, pores look more obvious or the skin has lost some of its smoothness. It works by creating controlled micro-injury and heat in the skin, which encourages collagen renewal and can gradually refine the surface.
Does it tighten loose skin?
It can help with mild to moderate laxity, but it depends on what is causing the looseness and how advanced it is. HIFU is usually the part of the treatment plan we think about more for lift and deeper tightening, while RF microneedling supports collagen higher up in the skin. If the skin laxity is more advanced, the result will still be more modest than surgery.
Is radio frequency microneedling painful?
Most clients find it manageable. It is not the same as a relaxing facial, but it is usually better tolerated than people expect. You may feel warmth, prickling and a more active sensation during treatment. HIFU feels different again, usually more like deep heat or brief tingling in the tissue.
How many treatments will I need?
Most people need a course rather than a single appointment. RF microneedling and microneedling involves 3 to 6 monthly treatments. In our clinic, we would tailor the plan to the concern, because acne scarring, pores and laxity do not all behave in exactly the same way.
When will I see results?
Some clients notice their skin looks brighter or feels tighter earlier on, but the main result is gradual. RF microneedling results are typically seen three to six months from the first treatment, because the skin continues improving as new collagen forms. This is one of those treatments where steady improvement is more realistic than an overnight change.
Can I have RF microneedling if I still have active acne?
Usually, we prefer not to do scar-focused microneedling while acne is still active and inflamed.
Is this treatment a replacement for a facelift?
No. It can improve firmness, texture and skin quality, but it is not a surgical facelift and it will not produce a surgical level of lifting. They are useful non-surgical options, but they are not replacements for surgery when the laxity is more advanced.
Is radio frequency microneedling safe?
It should be treated as a medical procedure, not a casual beauty treatment. In October 2025, the FDA issued a safety communication warning about reports of complications with certain uses of RF microneedling devices and advised patients to discuss benefits and risks carefully and seek treatment from trained providers. Safe treatment requires proper medical knowledge of skin structure and facial anatomy. That is exactly why consultation, correct settings and experienced treatment selection matter.
