Skin tags (fibroepithelial polyp/papilloma). Common skin lesion, found in areas such as armpits, under breasts, groin and around the neck.

Mole Reduction. Moles can be visibly reduced after a number of treatments. Please note that the mole is reduced, not removed. A doctor’s note is required for this treatment.
Sebaceous Cysts (Steatoma) Painless, slow growing lumps that move freely under the skin. Usually formed from blocked hair follicles or sebaceous glands or skin trauma. Multiple treatments may be required
Blood Spots/Spider Veins/Broken Capillaries. These can appear for a number of reasons such as age, genetics, sun damage, smoking, harsh weather exposure.

How It Works

Advanced electrolysis uses a fine probe to deliver a targeted current to the lesion, which will cauterise or dehydrate the lesion allowing it to be removed.

Not all skin lesions can be successfully removed and we will recommend the best method for treatment during the initial consultation. Some blemishes may require a Doctor’s written consent prior to treatment. We offer a lesion checking service through Map My Mole for an additional cost.

There are minimal after effects after the treatment, with very little downtime. There may be some light scabbing after the treatment

Advance Electrolysis FAQs

What is Advanced Electrolysis blemish removal?
Advanced Electrolysis, also known as Advanced Cosmetic Procedures, is a specialist treatment used to reduce or remove a range of superficial skin blemishes. A very fine probe is used to deliver a targeted current to the blemish, helping to cauterise, dehydrate or lift away the unwanted lesion.

It is a non-surgical treatment and is commonly used for concerns such as skin tags, blood spots, spider veins, broken capillaries, milia, seborrhoeic keratosis, warts and some cysts.

What types of blemishes can Advanced Electrolysis treat?

Advanced Electrolysis can be used to treat a wide range of cosmetic skin blemishes, including skin tags, seborrhoeic keratosis, blood spots, spider veins, broken capillaries, milia, warts, verrucae and some sebaceous cysts.

It can also be used for mole reduction in suitable cases, although moles are reduced rather than fully removed. A doctor’s note is required before any mole reduction treatment can be carried out.

Is Advanced Electrolysis suitable for all areas of the body?

Advanced Electrolysis can be used on many areas of the face and body, depending on the type of blemish and the suitability of the skin. Common areas include the face, neck, chest, groin, underarms, under the breasts and other areas where cosmetic skin lesions may appear.

Treatment is not carried out on the genital area. Suitability will always be confirmed during consultation.

Do I need a consultation before treatment?
Yes. A consultation is required before any Advanced Electrolysis treatment. This allows the practitioner to assess the blemish, check your suitability, explain the treatment process and discuss what results you can realistically expect.

In some cases, you may be advised to seek a doctor’s diagnosis or provide written consent from your GP before treatment can go ahead, especially if the lesion is unusual, has changed in appearance or is a mole.

Will I need a doctor’s note before blemish removal?
Not always, but some blemishes do require medical confirmation before treatment. For example, mole reduction requires a doctor’s note, and any lesion that has changed in size, shape, colour, texture, bleeds, or has appeared suddenly should be assessed by a medical professional before cosmetic treatment is considered.

This is for your safety and ensures that only suitable cosmetic lesions are treated.

How long does the treatment take?
Treatment time depends on the type, size and number of blemishes being treated. Many appointments take around 15 to 30 minutes, although this may vary if multiple lesions are being addressed.

Your practitioner will give you a clearer idea of treatment time during your consultation.

Is Advanced Electrolysis painful?
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick stinging, heat or prickling feeling. It can be slightly uncomfortable, but it is usually very tolerable and treatment times are generally short.

Some clients choose to use a topical anaesthetic cream before their appointment. This can usually be purchased from a pharmacy, but your practitioner will advise you on whether this is suitable and when to apply it.

Treatment time depends on the type, size and number of blemishes being treated. Many appointments take around 15 to 30 minutes, although this may vary if multiple lesions are being addressed.

Your practitioner will give you a clearer idea of treatment time during your consultation.

How many treatments will I need?
This depends on the type of blemish being treated. Some skin tags can often be treated in a single session, while warts, cysts, mole reduction and other more stubborn lesions may require a course of treatments.

Your practitioner will advise you on the likely number of sessions once they have assessed the area.

When will I see results?
In many cases, the result is immediate, especially with smaller superficial blemishes such as skin tags. However, the skin still needs time to fully heal after treatment.

The final result is usually best assessed once the area has completed its healing process, which can take around 4 to 6 weeks.

What happens to the skin after treatment?

After treatment, the area may look red and feel warm, tight or slightly swollen. Light scabbing is also normal and is part of the healing process.

It is important not to pick, scratch or remove any scabs, as this can interfere with healing and may increase the risk of marking. Full aftercare advice will be given at your appointment.

How long does healing take?
Healing varies depending on the blemish treated, the area of the body and your individual skin response. As a general guide, the skin may take around 4 to 6 weeks to fully heal.

You should plan your treatment carefully if you have holidays, special events or sun exposure coming up.

Is there any downtime after Advanced Electrolysis?
Downtime is usually minimal, but the treated area may be visible while it heals. Redness, localised swelling, tightness and light scabbing can occur.

Most clients can return to normal daily activities, but you will need to follow the aftercare instructions carefully and protect the area while the skin is healing.

What aftercare will I need to follow?
Aftercare will be explained fully at your appointment and may include using aloe vera or calamine powder while the area heals. You should avoid picking the skin, avoid unnecessary heat or friction on the area, and keep the treated skin protected.

SPF is recommended for 3 months after treatment to help protect the healing skin and reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.

Can I go in the sun after treatment?
It is best to avoid direct sun exposure while the area is healing. The skin can be more delicate after treatment, and sun exposure may increase the risk of pigmentation or prolonged redness.

SPF should be used after treatment, and it is recommended for 3 months post-treatment. If you have a holiday planned, your practitioner can advise on the best timing for your appointment.

Can Advanced Electrolysis remove skin tags?
Yes, skin tags are one of the most common blemishes treated with Advanced Electrolysis. They are often found around the neck, underarms, groin, under the breasts and other areas where skin may rub.

Many skin tags can be treated quickly, although suitability will depend on the size, location and appearance of the lesion.

Can Advanced Electrolysis treat warts and verrucae?
Yes, Advanced Electrolysis may be used to treat warts and verrucae in suitable cases. These can be more persistent than some other blemishes, so repeated treatments may be required.

Your practitioner will assess the area and explain whether Advanced Electrolysis is the right option for you.

Can you remove moles with Advanced Electrolysis?
Advanced Electrolysis may be used for mole reduction, but it does not fully remove a mole. The aim is to visibly reduce the mole over a number of treatments.

A doctor’s note is required before mole reduction can be carried out. Any mole that has changed in colour, size, shape or texture, or has started bleeding, must be checked by a medical professional.

Can Advanced Electrolysis treat blood spots, spider veins and broken capillaries?
Yes, Advanced Electrolysis can be used to reduce the appearance of blood spots, spider veins and broken capillaries. These can develop for several reasons, including age, genetics, sun damage, smoking and weather exposure.

The number of treatments needed will depend on the size, depth and extent of the concern.

Will the blemish come back after treatment?
Many blemishes do not require ongoing maintenance once successfully treated. However, some skin concerns can recur, and new blemishes may appear over time due to factors such as age, genetics, sun exposure or skin type.

Your practitioner will advise you on what to expect and whether any future treatments may be needed.

Will Advanced Electrolysis leave a scar?
Advanced Electrolysis is designed to treat superficial cosmetic blemishes with minimal downtime. However, all skin treatments carry some risk of temporary marking, redness, pigmentation changes or scarring, especially if aftercare is not followed correctly.

Avoiding picking, protecting the area from the sun and following the aftercare advice will help support the best possible healing outcome.

Who may not be suitable for Advanced Electrolysis?
Advanced Electrolysis may not be suitable if you have a history of skin cancer, if the lesion has changed suddenly, if it bleeds, or if it appears to be deeper within the skin and may require surgical removal.

The treatment is intended for suitable cosmetic lesions only. Final suitability will always be confirmed during consultation.
